paper craft research

  Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann

their website Zim & Zou (zimandzou.fr)

I have a peculiar connection to Lucie and Thibault's work after looking through it. I was particularly drawn to the ones with intentional composition. My eyes drifted throughout the composition like a baby looking for candies as the cohesiveness almost had me forget about the subject matter and technical aspects.

I really love the impact created by their use of color and focal point. the shape design of the earth stands out sharply despite the similarity it has compare to the surrounding.
Those paper sculptures remind me of a staged doll performance like the ones in Pinocchio. You can feel it coming to life in front of you as you continue to stare at it. Due of the smoother nature of paper crafts, the lighting thrown on the scene is really evident. We might infer that the versatility of lighting is one benefit of setting up scenes using paper crafts.

I adore this particular personal project that they created since the paper craft is neat and well-made; just from looking at it, I would want to touch it to check the functionality of the knobs and any texture it might have to hold the paper camera.

Not simply because it is constructed of paper and other atheistic materials, but also because of the well-thought-out and distinct designs behind their creations, such as Harmony in composition and colour. It must be a laborious process to decide on the smallest design details, such as the colour paper to use for which layer of an object.
